Driving around the Pineywoods is usually pretty uneventful, but there are many projects scheduled in our area now that might change that. Inside South Loop 287 in Lufkin next week there is a planned road closure on Sayers Street Starting Monday (3/8/21) at 8am, and continuing until Friday (3/12/21) at 5pm.

The road will be closed so The Angelina & Neches River Railroad can replace the crossing on FM 2251 inside the loop in Lufkin. Weather permitting, M&M Sales and Service LLC, out of Timpson will be there performing the work. They will be replacing the planking and rehabbing the entire crossing.

Traffic control (that's the guys with the flags) will be there from Area Wide Protective, in Austin. Please be careful in the area as all of these workers do their jobs. We are all being asked to obey all signage, traffic control devises and these workers while the work is being done.

There are many alternative routes to get in out of that area. Next week, it might just be easier to go around this minor inconvenience using the Loop or than trying to go through it. I know residents in the immediate area might not be lucky enough to have one, but it will be a much safer crossing once they are done.

You can always find more information about road closures and road conditions at drivetexas.org. I know using that site was particularly helpful for many Texas residents during our recent winter storms.
