For the second time in seven days, East Texas "shaked, rattled & rolled".  Measuring 4.3 on the "Rick-ter" scale, the early morning tremblor struck around 3:15 a.m. Thursday (May 17), centered near Timpson.  Last weeks shaker (May 10) was 3.9.  Although neither were violent, the escalation in quake magnitude meant I could hear every vehicle alarm go beserk within four blocks.  Did you feel it?  Or, are you one of those heavy snoozers that can sleep through it all?

Having lived in Southern California, I'm no stranger to hearing about the 'Big One'.  Earthquake that is.  The 1971 Sylmar quake (6.6 on the "Rick-ter" scale) was my first 'Big One'.

As luck would have it, I was in Oakland, California in the fall of 1989.  The Bay Area quake was a "Classic Rock n' Roller" weighing in at 7.1 on the "Rick-ter" scale.  But, even though 7.1 is a gigantic number, it was the Northridge quake in 1994 that scared me most.  While all are considered bad, This 'Bad Boy' registering 6.7 on the "Rick-ter" scale, made the other two shaker's feel like nothing more than a bad roller coaster ride, and despite losing everything not nailed down inside my home, I was grateful to walk away unscathed.

Suffice to say, there is ONE good thing about an earthquake, and ONLY ONE - you never know "when" - until it happens.
