System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian is currently making a music documentary about activism as seen through the lens of his career, the musician detailed last Friday with a post on his official Instagram account.

Displaying a vintage shot of himself from an old music video, Tankian said the previously unseen image was discovered as he and his team were collecting materials from his life to be used in the upcoming film.

The photo — which shows a young Tankian at a keyboard among a terrain rife with brush — is from the System of a Down singer's very first gig as musician, he wrote in the caption, in a band called Forever Young.

"We're making a music documentary film about activism and my career so we’ve been looking for old recordings, photos, videos," the singer said before apologizing for the pic's "poor quality as it was taken from an old video."

A title and release date for the documentary have yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Tankian's main project remain at a creative impasse despite System of a Down members' frequent talk of the long-awaited follow-up to Hypnotize, the band's most recent studio album that was released in 2005.

They still play shows, though, so see the upcoming dates below.
