SFA Can Claim Two Famous Eagles – a Rock Legend and an NFL Linebacker
The other day, we posted a trivia question on the Q107 Facebook page asking, "Which Eagles member attended SFA for a time?" When it was posted, we were referring to the Eagles band. However, several people came back to correct us that a former SFA football player also was an Eagle, in an entirely different field. We're not upset that they did. In fact, we're excited!
SFA Can Claim Two Famous Eagles
The first answer, which is the one that we were actually looking for, was Don Henley, who played in the Eagles band. He didn't graduate from SFA before transferring to another college, but SFA still claims him, and rightfully so.

The other famous Eagle was Jeremiah Trotter. Jeremiah Trotter played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. I can't believe that we overlooked him when asking the question. There was no malice or anything like that, we were just considering the music industry side of things, so naturally Don Henley was the first answer that we came to.
According to NFL.com Jeremiah Trotter actually had a fairly long career in the NFL, spanning several seasons and playing for multiple teams. And, he got his start in Nacogdoches, at Stephen F. Austin State University. So, he definitely needs to be recognized as a big-name Eagle from SFA as well!

So, there you have it. It was a bit of oversight on our part, but we were looking on the music side of things. However, it's still cool that a music superstar Eagle AND a football superstar Eagle both came from SFA. And both of them can be found on the SFA Alumni Association website under the "Notable Alumni" category. Whether they completed their degrees there or not, they still came from Lumberjack country in Nacogdoches!
