There were no major box office records broken, but the weekend wasn't too shabby for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. Worldwide, the move raked in $283.5 million.

Just in the US, the movie made $139.5 million to easily debut in first place. This is the fifth-most-successful opening weekend in domestic box office history. Thousands stayed up early to check out the midnight screenings. Those alone brought in over 30 million. The movie made a total of 72 million on its first day of release.

Those looking for a vampire alternative seemed to pick penguins. Happy Feet 2 was number two, with $22 million.

We think the Twilight total was boosted by some folks who saw it more than once. We talked to some folks who have already seen it three times. You have amazing endurance! With a holiday week this week, expect the down time to lead to more cash for Stephanie Meyer and the Twilight empire. Feel free to leave your comments on the movie.
