Change is hard. Change is especially hard when you get two different sets of people with differing views. This is the case with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Pumping Unit in Lufkin.

For as long as I can remember, the giant red pumping unit was set up in front of the Lufkin Mall. That's just how it was. So, I was somewhat surprised when the announcement was made to move it to the downtown area of Lufkin. However, this announcement wasn't upsetting to me. It was just the way it was going to be. It was going to be different, but that's just how it was.

There are some people that have stronger feelings about the move, though. And, they're making those feelings known. A petition has now been set up on Change.org to have Rudolph moved back to the Lufkin Mall parking lot. As I'm writing this, the online petition is nearing 2,000 signatures.

Now, I haven't done the research, but apparently the original red-nosed pumping unit was located downtown before being moved to the mall parking lot. So, there's one group of people that says having it downtown is actually the original tradition, and they were rather pleased with the moving of it.

The group of people that is in support of the new petition claims that Rudolph is visible to more people when it's set up in the Lufkin Mall parking lot - at US 59 and Loop 287 - so the change should be made to put him back there.

Either way, it sounds like somebody isn't going to be happy with the outcome. Whether Rudolph the Red-Nosed Pumping Unit stays downtown, or moves back to the Lufkin Mall parking lot, someone will not be completely satisfied. And this is because, like I mentioned earlier, change is hard.
