Sabinetown Recreation Area is Officially Open on Toledo Bend
Growing up between the Toledo Bend Reservoir and the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, I might be a bit biased, but I'd put those two lakes up against any other lake in the state of Texas. Sure, you could make the case that there are better ones, but I'd probably tell you that you're wrong. One of the things that makes our two Deep East Texas lakes great is the upkeep that is done to make sure that they stay in good working conditions. The amenities around them is always done pretty well.
One of the lakes - Toledo Bend - has been had some major additions over the past few months. In fact, a huge brand-new addition was just unveiled this past weekend.

Sabinetown Recreation Area is Now Officially Open
The Sabine River Authority of Texas, which oversees the Toledo Bend Reservoir, has been working on a new recreation area on the lake. This new update is called the Sabinetown Recreation Area, and it's located at 712 Vantage Point, just outside of Hemphill. Check out one the pictures that overlooks the new Sabinetown:
This new recreation area has enough parking space for almost 300 trucks and trailers, a six-lane boat ramp, a pavilion that can be used for all kinds of gatherings, and more. According to the SRA website, this facility was "constructed to accommodate recreational boating and fishing, regional tournaments, and professional events." And that's just what they've done.
Sabinetown Grand Opening and Fishers of Men National Championship Tournament
The grand opening of the new facility was held on Saturday, March 28th. And what better way to hold the grand opening along with an event that the facility built for? That's right, the grand opening was held at the same time as a national championship fishing tournament - the Fishers of Men National Championship Tournament. So, not only did they celebrate with a ribbon cutting, food, music, etc., they also celebrated with a full-scale tournament.

For the ribbon cutting ceremony, not only was the SRA well-represented with their staff members, but Congressman Nathaniel Moran, State Representative Joanne Shofner, and officials from Sabine County were present as well.
I don't know about you, but this is a pretty awesome addition to Toledo Bend. I look forward to hearing about all of the events that take place here, as well as what's next!
