East Texas employers are great at many things, but there is one category where nobody gets an A.  

On the new Equileap Gender Equality Scorecard that just came out, no companies achieved an A grade.

They looked at the leading companies in the US and scored each one on workplace equality including healthcare benefits and anti-sexual harassment policies.  A couple of the companies that Equileap looked at had settled lawsuits involving gender discrimination and/or sexual harassment during the past two years.

How do you think East Texas companies do?  I can only speak from experience, but I've never felt like I'm at a disadvantage because I'm a woman.  Overall, I think the official office policies I've encountered treat men and women equally, but with the #metoo movement, things are changing even more.  Awareness about gender equality has increased and the consciousness may be at an all-time high and that could bring more positive change in the future.  There's always room for growth.

On the report card, Equileap gave General Motors the highest score at 71% or a B+ on the scale.  Bank of America and Johnson & Johnson followed at 68%, with JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup in fourth and fifth place at 63%.  The average score was 45% or a C- grade.

I want my daughters to believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, and that includes becoming a C-suite executive with a corner office, running the show in a fun, fair, and productive environment.  They're 10, 9, and 7 now.  By the time they're ready to start that first job after college, all of these companies will be in the A range, right?  We'll keep working on it.
