A bad accident Wednesday night claimed the life of an Austin woman, and Stephen F Austin said she was on her way to freshman orientation.

18-year old Rainey Blaylock  was going southeast on Davisville Road when she failed to yield at the intersection of North Medford Drive and was hit by an oncoming truck, according to the Lufkin police report.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school made mention of Blaylock's death at the Thursday morning orientation that she was supposed to attend, and said although it was an exciting day for many students, the campus was grieving and sending thoughts and prayers to Blaylock's family.

Now bigger questions are being raised about the safety of that intersection, since it's the fourth accident there in the past couple of months, but the first fatal one.  TxDOT is evaluating everything from the number of signs to the speed limits on that section of road, while police continue to investigate to figure out exactly what caused the accident.
