The US soccer team may have lost the match Thursday against Germany, but the team still finished second in its group and advanced to the Round of 16 thanks to a goal differential over Portugal.

Germany and the US advance, and Portugal and Ghana were eliminated.

It's pretty cool to have an East Texan on the team, playing on such huge world stage. There are over a billion people around the world watching this thing!  Clint Dempsey is a forward and team captain for the US..

There were watch parties in Nacogdoches at  Banita Creek Hall and the Flashback Café Thursday for the World Cup match, and they'll keep holding those watch parties as long as the Americans are playing.  The next match is Tuesday, July 1 against Belgium at 3pm on ESPN.

Dempsey jerseys are becoming more and more popular, and I would bet there will be people taking pictures at Clint Dempsey Fields in Nac and posting them on Facebook pages just because they can.

The Houston Chronicle says Dempsey still comes back regularly to visit family and spends time in East Texas fishing and posing for pictures with fans.  Next time that happens, he'll have lots of World Cup stories to share.

Go US!!!  We'll be taking the afternoon off Tuesday.
