Is The New 75 mph Speed Limit Too Fast?
A new law has made it okay to go 75 mph on many Texas roads that had a lower speed limit before. Is it a good thing?
Drivers wanting to get somewhere in a hurry love it. Safety experts debate whether the associated risks are too great.
A Nacogdoches County constable told KTRE he has concerns about the new higher speed limits, especially on rural roads where many mailboxes line both sides. And he worries about those who choose to drive slower than 75 mph. Cars going faster can come up on the rear view mirror in a hurry.
For now the 75 mph hour speed limit stays. Those who don't like it will be paying close attention to the data over the next several months, to see if there's an increase in the number of accidents on roads with higher speed limits. Then the matter would be back in the hands of lawmakers.
