Kids get a bad wrap sometimes for being lazy and out of shape, but we know not all kids are lying on the couch, eating chips, and playing video games. We've seen lots of East Texas kids swimming this summer, playing baseball and softball, and even eating an occasional veggie.

To continue promoting healty habits, the Junior League of Lufkin is sponsoring Camp Get Fit/Kids at the First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center next week.

The camp starts Monday the 23rd for elementary students and will focus on exercise, nutrition and education. Physical activity and the nutrition advice will be part of it, plus the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council, dental hygenists, and even Smoothie King will make presentations. The camp costs 10 bucks, and at the end of the camp, the kids get a cookbook that includes the recipes and instructions for each of the snacks made during the week. That's worth $10 right there!

Campers who register by today also get a Camp Get Fit/Kids T-shirt.

To register, go to the Junior League of Lufkin website.

The camp runs from 9am to noon July 23 through July 27.

This fall, kids will be grabbing the peanut butter and celery snacks instead of the candy bars. Thanks Junior League!
