Nacogdoches Independent High School District Wins Stellar Recognition
Until now, I never gave it a second thought, on how schools make money. Have I got your wheels turning too?
This may seem trivial, but were you aware that High School districts have to “balance the checkbook”? Are held accountable for their actions regarding finances? Weird, huh? I mean we’ve all known that restaurants, for example, keep track of how many salads are run out the door, or at least they’re supposed too.
But who knew that someone getting an extra corn dog at lunch would be tracked. Well, maybe it doesn’t go that deep, but the Nacogdoches Independent School District (NISD), for the second year in a row, has earned the Texas Education Agency’s top rating for financial accountability.
Now, when you consider education funding is channeled through local, state, and federal sources, being number one in the bookkeeping department could get hairy. Also, when you consider taxpayer dollars are always at the center of controversy, having a great gate keeper(s) is paramount to not over-extending the budget.
NISD received a total score of 67 out of 70. Now, that’s what I call a passing grade.
