Most Texans could probably polish off an entire bag of spicy chips in one sitting without thinking twice, but before you dig in to some certain jalapeno chips, you might want to check to make sure they're not on the recall list.  

Frito-Lay is recalling several kinds of its jalapeno chips over worries about salmonella.  The recall is out of an abundance of caution the company says, because they didn't actually find any salmonella in the seasoning.  The company that supplied the jalapeno powder recalled the product, so Frito-Lay had to do the same thing.

I can hear you tough guys saying you'll just throw caution to the wind and attack that bag anyway, but taking it back to the store for a refund would be the smarter option.  Just in case.

They've got a “guaranteed fresh” date of July 4th.

There are also some multipacks that have a “use by” date of June 20th and a “guaranteed fresh” date of July 4th.

If you're going to get sick from salmonella, the FDA says that will happen 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. So if you ate some chips over the weekend, you're probably free of salmonella worries by now.

The good news is, the cheesy chips and the barbecue flavors are in the clear.  And we're sure they'll have the jalapenos straightened out in time for you Memorial Day Weekend barbecue.  Hang in there.
