Teachers don't get the credit that they deserve. That's just a fact. All of our teachers are heroes. They go above and beyond for the students, and our communities are better for that. This week's Deep East Texas Community Rockstar is a teacher that's doing just that.

Kelsey Watkins, a Community Rockstar Teacher in and out of the Classroom

Kelsey Watkins is our newest Community Rockstar. She's a 1st grade teacher at Peavy Primary at Hudson ISD. According to her nominator, "Mrs. Watkins consistently goes above and beyond to help her students out. She is a master at teaching them how to read and advocating for their needs. However, her dedication to students doesn't just stop at the end of the school day. They went on to say, "Mrs. Watkins tutors students after school who need just a little extra help to be successful."

And, on top of that, she doesn't stop supporting the students just because they are out of her class. The nominator concluded with this: "Mrs. Watkins even supports her students (past and present) by going to their ball games or supporting whatever fundraiser they are doing."

There's no doubt that this dedicated teacher is making our community better, and she's very deserving of the Community Rockstar title. Congratulations to Kelsey Watkins on being named this week's Deep East Texas Community Rockstar! With that title, Kelsey will be receiving a framed certificate from Q107 and Zion Auto Glass and a gift certificate to Lone Star Charlie's in Lufkin.
