Once again, the breakthroughs of yesterday remain to be today's classics.  The album cover from Pink Floyd's landmark 1973 album, Dark Side of the Moon, has been voted the greatest album cover of all time.  Check out who else made the top ten list.

The shaft of light split by a simple, triangular prism into the colors of the visible spectrum, all against a jet black background, was voted number one in an online poll by MusicRadar.com.  The cover, designed by the now legendary Hipgnosis art team, was considered revolutionary when released in 1973, largely because it featured no lettering, not even the band's name.  Hipgnosis designed over a dozen covers in all for Pink Floyd and band member solo projects, including the number ten entry in the MusicRadar.com poll, 1977's Animals.

Here are the top ten album covers, according to the poll:

1 ) Pink Floyd -- Dark Side of the Moon
2 ) Nirvana -- Nevermind
3 ) The Beatles -- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
4 ) The Clash -- London Calling
5  ) Rage Against the Machine -- Rage Against the Machine
6 ) Iron Maiden -- The Number of the Beast
7 ) The Beatles -- The White Album
8 ) Joy Division -- Unknown Pleasures
9 ) King Crimson -- In the Court of the Crimson King
10 ) Pink Floyd -- Animals
