It's a sad day for Warrant fans.

Former Warrant frontman Jani Lane was found dead Thursday evening at a Los Angeles hotel, according to TMZ.com.  Lane was 47, and there's no word yet on what caused his death.

A spokesperson for the LA PD will only say there's an ongoing investigation.

Lane wrote the Warrant hits "Heaven" and "Cherry Pie," and initially left the band in 1993 but rejoined them a year later.  After leaving the band again in 2004, he returned to the group in 2008.  Lane was also on an edition of Celebrity Fit Club in 2005.

In 2010, he was sentenced to 120 days in jail for his second DUI charge in two years.
