Have a Tiny Home Shipped Right to Your Door
We're buying everything else online, so why not a house too? The market for tiny homes in Texas keeps growing, and the easiest way to get one might be to buy it online and have it shipped right to your door. Or perhaps to your empty plat of land, if your door doesn't exactly exist yet.
With apartments renting for more than a thousand bucks a month around East Texas and home prices continuing to climb, a lot of our neighbors are turning to tiny homes as a more budget-friendly option. I've got a friend who planted a tiny home near Canton on an acre of land, and he loves it. He's got a place to eat, sleep, and even entertain, and it comes with a lot of open space around it, which is exactly what he wanted.
Micro homes range in price from a few thousand dollars to 200-thousand dollars or more, so you can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. Amazon is selling quite a few tiny homes with a price range from $3500 for a box that looks sort of like an insulated shed, to $47,000 for a one thousand square-foot cabin. You can live in the micro home, or use it as an office or an escape anytime you need a break from your main house. It could become a new man cave.
Pre-designed tiny homes come fully intact and all you have to do it put it together with "easy to follow instructions." All the practice putting kids' bikes together will come in handy here. Since we're well familiar with "easy to follow instructions" already, we're sure assembling a home will be another easy, breezy process. Oh boy. But even if something does get sideways with the process, at least tiny-home buyers are saving huge money and that's something to feel good about.
Tiny homes are becoming more elaborate all the time, with custom features like copper fixtures, pine siding, and metal roofs. For $60,000 or so, college graduates, young couples, and single guys like my friend Joe, and are getting pretty cool homes for a fraction of the cost of a larger home. Most tiny-homes won't arrive with two-day shipping so patience has to factor in, but they will show up in 30 to 60 days after ordering.
Do you have a place to put one? If so, spring might be the perfect time to do it.
