Heat Advisory Issued for East Texas for Wednesday and Thursday
With the way 2020 has gone, it seems only appropriate that we start the new month off with a warning, more specifically, a Heat Advisory.
It's already been steamy, hazy and dusty for the last several days, but the National Weather Service in Shreveport says that it's only going to get hotter and for that reason a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 am Wednesday to 7 pm Thursday. We're expecting the heat index (feels like temperature) to get as high as 109 degrees across parts of east and northeast Texas.
Deep East Texas counties included are:
- Angelina
- Nacogdoches
- Cherokee
- Rusk
- Shelby
- Sabine
- San Augustine
Even if your county is not in the advised area, I wouldn't suggest long sleeves. It's going to be hot everywhere in East Texas and as of this writing there is no mention of rain through Thursday.
Heat exhaustion and heat strokes are very dangerous and can strike quickly in extreme heat, so know the warning signs. If you do plan on being outdoors, stay hydrated, stay in the shade (if possible), and take frequent rest breaks. Make sure that you have your phone nearby in case you need to call for assistance.
Do not leave children and/or pets unattended in a vehicle. Check up on friends, relatives, and neighbors to make sure they stay safe.
