Wednesday proved to be a very busy evening for the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department and for several other fire departments in Angelina and Trinity Counties. Around 6:40 Wednesday evening, I was driving on Highway 94 just as several units from the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department were leaving their facility.  I saw them eventually turn north onto FM 706.  A short time later I saw numerous posts, photos, and videos on social media showing a church fully engulfed in flames.

That church is Triumphant Life Church, located at 2508 Bethlehem Road.

According to a report that was released on the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook Page, Hudson Fire was dispatched to the 2500 block of Bethlehem Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, heavy fire was observed and as a result, the request was made for tankers and manpower from all Angelina County Fire Departments as well as Apple Springs Fire Department.

The church structure was completely destroyed by the fire. Likewise, a travel trailer parked next to the church was also destroyed.

Six units from the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire including Hudson Ladder 1, Tanker 1, Engine 2, Tanker 2, Brush 2, and Utility 1. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A little after 7:30 p.m., Hudson Fire also responded to a brush fire near FM 3258.  Firefighters had to cut through a pasture fence in order to gain access to that fire.

A burn ban continues to be in effect for Angelina County as well as for the cities of Lufkin, Hudson, and Diboll.  Even throwing a cigarette out of a car window can lead to major wildfire given the extremely dry conditions.

We would also like to extend a very big and heartfelt 'thank you' to all the firefighters who have been doing a heroic job.
