Some people call them turn signals. Some refer to them as blinkers. Either way, they're still located on every car that's on the road and - spoiler alert - they haven't gone extinct yet. Although, they're treated as if they have. Every time I get on the road, I find myself wondering if these simple, but important, car features are going away for good.

Not Using Them Can Cause a Domino Effect That You Don't Want

Driving can be a scary thing, especially here in Texas where lots of us have longer commutes. You never know what to expect from other drivers. It gets that much scarier when drivers don't use the tools that they've been given...like the turn signal. I can't tell you how many times that I've been in traffic, and all of a sudden someone in the next lane comes over into my lane with absolutely no signal whatsoever. Usually, that triggers a chain of events...When they come over unexpectedly, I slam on the brakes. The person behind me slams on their brakes. The person behind them slams on their brakes...You get the point. It's a domino effect that has the potential to cause a lot of damage. And it all could have been avoided.

No Need for Excuses on the Road

It takes hardly any effort at all to glance over your shoulder to see if there's someone in the lane, and even less effort to push up on the little lever to activate the signal. And once you move over, most vehicles have a nifty feature that turns off the signal once you're done. Some cars even warn you if you leave the signal on, so that does away with the excuse of, "Oh, I was afraid I'd leave it on..." Come on, people.
