Lufkin ISD has 1350 employees, with about half of those being teachers.  That means that there are hundreds of other staff members who are taking the role of administrative and support personnel.  You can't have a functioning school district without teachers, but the same can be said for all those keeping the administrative and various other departments running.

Recently, the Administrative Services Department at LISD recognized four employees in October who play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of the school district.

"These outstanding employees keep the school district running smoothly. Our staff is here to serve and to ensure that our students are the main priority and these four individuals have gone above and beyond. Recognizing them as Employee of the Month in their department is a small token of our appreciation for their service," said Dr. Daniel Spikes, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services.

The Student Nutrition Services Department recognized Martini Sullivan, Nutrition Specialist at Hackney Primary, as Employee of the Month. Ms. Sullivan has been with Lufkin ISD for 11 years.

"Ms. Sullivan has been a team player through the pandemic. She’s been asked to assist at other campuses and always does it with a smile on her face," said Amanda Calk, Student Nutrition Services Director.

The Maintenance Department recognized Matt Thompson, Grounds Supervisor, as Employee of the Month. He has been with the district for 21 years.

"Matt has gone above and beyond and is always willing to do whatever needs to be done. Proud to have him on our team!" said Johnnie Ross, Maintenance Director.

The Custodial Department recognized Jesus “Chuy” Rodriguez, Custodial Supervisor, as Employee of the Month. He has been with the district for four year.

"Chuy manages all of the facilities for the district. With reduced staff, he continues to get the work done without complaining. Chuy is always assisting with extra duties or whatever needs to be done and always goes above and beyond," said Johnnie Ross, Maintenance Director.

The Transportation Department recognized bus driver Scott Cooper as Employee of the Month.

"Scott Cooper has been with Lufkin ISD transportation for 15 years and he has always been available to assist us with extra driving duties and whatever else is asked or needed. He is a selfless person who can always rise to the call to get the job done. Mr. Cooper takes pride in his job and is an exemplary employee. We appreciate Scott and the dedication that he so graciously provides for our students," said Transportation Director Wayne Grissom.
