Lufkin Police is hoping that residents in East Texas can provide tips on the whereabouts of a known sex offender.

According to police press release, William Thomas Dykes, 38, of Lufkin, is wanted for failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements. He claimed to be living with a family member on Cain Street, but had actually been living at Petty's Motel.

When an officer stopped by the Cain Street address to perform a sex offender check, the family member said they would not lie for Dykes and that he had not been living there. After going to Petty's Motel to make contact with Dykes, the officer learned that Dykes abruptly checked out Aug. 7. Petty's Motel is his last known address.

Dykes has previous convictions for failing to comply with registry requirements.
His original charge stems from an Iowa conviction for attempt to commit assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, involving a 22-year-old woman sometime prior to July of 2000.

He's described as 5'7, 198 pounds, bald with hazel eyes.  If you see Dykes or have information on his location, call our non-emergency number at 936-633-0356. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS.
