Lufkin Gets New Arena Football Team, The Texas Desperados

Coming fresh off a very successful season, the Nacogdoches Niners minor league baseball team is looking to come back stronger next year. However, they're not the only new sports team in Deep East Texas.

Apparently, Lufkin is getting their very own professional arena football team soon. The Texas Desperados, a part of the American Arena League, will start playing in the 2027 season.

And no, this isn't just rumor. All of this information is coming from a press release from the American Arena League website. As of right now, not much else has been confirmed, as far as where the home games will be played in Lufkin, the schedule, roster, etc. It's still a new announcement, and more details will be available later.

This isn't the first time that Lufkin has had a sports team like this, however. It wasn't that long ago that the East Texas Timber Rattlers indoor football team was playing in Lufkin, specifically at the George H. Henderson Expo Center. If I had to guess, I would say that's probably where the Desperados will be playing, but don't quote me on that one.

I can't say that I know much about arena football, as far as the rules and regulations and things of that nature. All I know is that people are already starting to get excited about this addition to Lufkin, and according to a post from the Texas Desperados Pro Arena Team Facebook page, it all kicks off in April 2027.
