If you plan on attending any athletic events at Nacogdoches High School this year, you should be aware of a couple of new policies that the district has put in place.

Nacogdoches ISD Implements Clear Bag Policy, Weapons Detection System at Games

According to a press release on the Nacogdoches ISD website, the district is implementing a couple of new safety features required for anyone attending athletic events at the high school - a clear bag policy and a weapon detection system.

According to release, "Bags and items that cannot be clearly seen through will be prohibited in the stadium, at fields and in gymnasiums where NISD is hosting athletic events." As you can see, this doesn't just apply to the football stadium, it will be active for all athletic events held on the Nacogdoches ISD campus.

In addition to the clear bag policy, the district is also installing a weapons detection system. Fans must successfully pass through the detection system before being allowed to enter Dragon Stadium. Items that will set off this detection system include "guns and large knives, other large items similar to binders, laptops, umbrellas and eye glass cases." The release says that the items should not be brought into the stadium. It did go on to say that "Cell phones, keys and small amounts of coins should pass through without a problem."

Exceptions to these guidelines as well as more information on them and other safety measures can be found on the Nacogdoches ISD website under Dragon Stadium Procedures.

But like I said earlier, if you plan on attending the athletic events this year, just know that these safety procedures are in effect and that Nacogdoches ISD is looking to keep their athletes, faculty, staff and fans safe.
