Nacogdoches PD Steps Up Speed Enforcement Through Operation Slowdown Campaign

To some people - or maybe LOTS of people - speed limits are looked at like suggestions. The thought process is, "I know the sign says 55 MPH, but 70 MPH isn't that much faster, right?" Wrong. It's still speeding, and it's still dangerous. And at least one of our local law enforcement agencies right here in Deep East Texas is participating in a campaign to crack down on that.

Nacogdoches Police Department is Participating in Operation Slowdown

According to a post from the Nacogdoches Police Department Facebook page, Nac PD is currently participating in a campaign called Operation Slowdown. This operation is funded by the Texas Department of Transportation. The whole purpose of this is to try to keep Texas roadways safer and, in effect, reduce the number of crashes on the roads.

What does this mean for you? This means that from now through August 2nd - when the Operation Slowdown campaign ends - you'll see more officers around town doing speed enforcement. Whether you're going down North Street, around the loop, through the construction zones, or elsewhere around Nacogdoches, you'll be seeing patrol officers doing their jobs to make sure that drivers are obeying the law.

What can you do to help? The answer is simple. You can obey the traffic laws. Do a little bit of planning ahead of time so that you're not in a rush to get to where you're going. Take a little extra time before hand, so that you're not getting that ticket for speeding.

At the end of the day, you might, MIGHT save a few seconds by speeding. I'm thinking that those few seconds probably aren't worth the ticket, and they definitely aren't worth putting lives in danger.
