“Maternal Instinct” Documentary About Texas Capital Murder Coming to Netflix
They say everything is bigger in Texas. And, unfortunately, sometimes that means that the crimes are bigger, or at least, more bizarre. One of those bizarre crimes that took place right here in the Lone Star State is about to hit the Netflix screen in June.
"Maternal Instinct": A True Crime Documentary from New Boston, Texas
If you haven't heard about the case of Taylor Parker, a woman from Simms, Texas, get ready, because it's a rough one. It's so rough, dark, and - like I mentioned earlier - bizarre, that it's getting its own Netflix documentary in June.

According to People.com, Taylor Rene Parker faked a pregnancy for 10 months, going so far as to fake ultrasounds, participate in gender-reveal parties, put up fake pregnancy posts on social media, and more. She did all these things just to keep her boyfriend from breaking up with her.
In the middle of all this, Parker befriended Reagan Simmons-Hancock, a woman from New Boston that really was pregnant. Simmons-Hancock hired Parker to take her engagement photos and wedding photos.
Taylor Parker Murdered Reagan Simmons-Hancock, Abducts Unborn Baby
At the end of the 10 months when Parker's baby - had it been real - would have been due, Parker killed Simmons-Hancock, stabbing her over 100 times before bashing her skull in with a hammer. Then, if that wasn't enough, she cut the unborn baby out of the mother's womb and drove off.

She was pulled over by a state trooper in De Kalb, whom she told that she had just given birth on the side of the road, showing him the baby's body that she had in her lap. Parker was taken to a hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma, where the baby was pronounced dead. This was when the story that she had built began to come undone, as the hospital staff could find no evidence that Parker had given birth.
Taylor Parker Charged, Convicted of Capital Murder
Upon further investigation, officials found the body of Reagan Simmons-Hancock and realized that the baby that Parker had been found with was actually the baby of Simmons-Hancock. Parker was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. She was convicted of capital murder in 2022 and was sentenced to death. Parker appealed that conviction in 2022 but was denied a new trial in 2025. She remains on death row.
According to the What's on Netflix website, "Maternal Instinct" premieres on Netflix June 12th. You can see the trailer below:
