Michael Eric Rodriguez is behind bars, charged with capital murder with a bond set at $5,000,000.  There is the possibility that Mr. Rodriguez may never be a free man again.  However, that comes too late for an elderly Lufkin couple that were brutally murdered last week, allegedly by Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has a history of violence with 18 prior Angelina County arrests on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, engaging in organized criminal activity, possession of a controlled substance, and assault/family violence.  According to a report in the Lufkin Daily News, Rodriguez's own family told police he was violent and they blame him for the death of their father.

Numerous persons who have become familiar with this case have expressed their concerns as to why a person with this violent history and with this potential to brutally assault others was allowed to be in the general public.  Now, a 68-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man have lost their lives in a vicious, inhuman attack.

According to an article by Jess Huff in the Lufkin Daily News, the arrest affidavit issued by Justice of the Peace Billy Ball sheds light on the callous and merciless nature of this murder.  No one, especially not a 68-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man should ever have to endure this.

According to investigators, three men, all with a long history of arrests, were employed to do yard work at the house in the 100 block of Home Avenue, near Herty Primary in Lufkin.  Based upon the testimony of the other workers and evidence collected by investigators, Rodriguez is believed to have killed the elderly couple using among other tools, a claw hammer and metal hedge trimmers.

Rodriguez was arrested on Saturday in 2200 block of North Raguet in Lufkin following a Crime Stoppers tip.
