Ice Cream Lovers Unite for National Ice Cream Month in July
July is a pretty good month for a number of reasons. It's right in the middle of summer. It's hot outside, but it's usually nice, without severe weather threats. But, there's one more reason that makes July great that you might not realize - I know that I didn't.
July is National Ice Cream Month
The entire of July has been designated as National Ice Cream Month. No, I'm not making that up. According to NationalDayCalendar.com, July was designated as National Ice Cream Month by President Ronald Reagan. And, on top of that, National Ice Cream Day falls right in the middle of Ice Cream Month, on the third Sunday of July, which would be on July 19th this year.
Now, I don't know if there are any stores in Deep East Texas that will be running specials for this month, but what I do know is that there's no shortage of places to find ice cream. You can find Blue Bell Ice Cream at just about every grocery store in the area - still no word on if/when they will be bringing the Lone Star Scoop Tour through here, but that's another story for another time. Also, you can find lots of places in our downtown areas of Nacogdoches and Lufkin that serve ice cream of all different types.
It is kind of a sobering thought when you think about the places that aren't as easily accessible during this month, like Dairy Queen for the vast majority of Deep East Texans. But that's just one bump in the road. There are other ways to celebrate.
