Nothing More, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Mastodon + More Nominated for 60th Annual Grammy Awards
The 60th Annual Grammy Award nominations were announced early Tuesday morning (Nov. 28), with a number of hard rock and metal acts receiving accolades for their work over the past year with the possibility of taking home one of the golden gramophones.
When the nominations were revealed Tuesday morning, hard rock and metal were left out of the four main categories (Album, Record, Song of the Year and Best New Artist), but there was still plenty to cheer. There were multiple nominations for Nothing More, Foo Fighters, Metallica and Mastodon.
Nothing More's triumphant year included nods for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for "Go to War" as well as a Best Rock Album nomination for The Stories We Tell Ourselves. “We’re in the middle of our European tour right now and just as we were pulling into Prague we got the news. Three Grammy nominations! We can’t believe it! Thank you so much," stated the members of Nothing More.
Foo Fighters added to their impressive string of Grammy nominations, with the single "Run" being nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Plus, their producer Greg Kurstin earned a nod for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.
Metallica, meanwhile, followed last year's "rock" entry with "Atlas, Rise!" being chosen for the Best Rock Song category and Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct earning a Best Rock Album nod.
And Mastodon also doubled up with "Sultan's Curse" entered for Best Metal Performance and Emperor of Sand being nominated for Best Rock Album.
One of the categories garnering the most interest amongst headbangers is Best Metal Performance, where you'll find August Burns Red ("Invisible Enemy"), Body Count ("Black Hoodie"), Code Orange ("Forever"), the aforementioned Mastodon ("Sultan's Curse") and Meshuggah ("Clockworks") all earning nominations.
Other names of note include Chris Cornell and Kaleo in the Best Rock Performance category for "The Promise" and "No Good" respectively, Avenged Sevenfold receiving a nomination for Best Rock Song for "The Stage" and Queens of the Stone Age's Villains receiving a nomination for Best Rock Album alongside Metallica, Mastodon, Nothing More and more alt-leaning entry A Deeper Understanding from The War on Drugs.
