If you're like me, you're always looking for new things coming to Deep East Texas. It's even more exciting when it's something unique that we don't already have one - or more - of yet. Well, one of those unique things is on the way to Lufkin, and it's getting closer to being a reality.

Ground-Breaking Has Begun on Rec + Relax in Lufkin

If you've driven around the east loop in Lufkin, around Flamingo Bingo recently, you may have noticed some construction work going on. That location is the site of the upcoming Rec + Relax Entertainment Venue that's being built. There's a reel of the construction posted from the Kyncey Developments LLC & Melvin Linton Homes LLC Facebook page, if you want to see for yourself.

Naturally, I had to find out more about this upcoming venue. I was able to get in touch with Ty Shafer, the owner and driving force behind this new attraction, and he was able to give me lots of details, without giving away all of it.

A Few Features of Rec + Relax

This is going to be similar to a Main Event, that you see in other places. The keyword here is "similar", because it will be similar, but not the same. There will be something for everyone, not just kids. There will be Lucky Putt, simulators for playing all kinds of different sports, party rooms available for rent, a chef driven menu - not just pizza, hot dogs, and nachos, but an actual restaurant-style menu - and this is just scratching the surface of what can be expected at Rec + Relax.

But the thing about all this is, it's also going to be a huge asset for the community. In addition to being a new business coming into the area, they're expecting to create at least 30-40 jobs, and they want those jobs to go to people that are looking to excel, not just fill a position. As I mentioned earlier, the venue is expected to be for everyone, not just kids. So, it's looking to be a place for first dates, family outings, business parties, bachelor parties, birthdays, or just for people looking to have some fun just for the heck of it.

So, as the beginning construction process continues to move and this new venture begins to take shape, be sure you're keeping an eye out for updates. They're aiming for an April 2027 official opening date, but there might be some other surprises before then!
