Scarborough Renaissance Festival is Open Near Dallas
The Houston Renaissance Festival takes place every fall, and Scarborough Renaissance Festival is the North Texas option for the spring. That's open now, and it's the place to go if you're craving one of those sausage-wrapped Scottish Eggs to go with a little jousting.
Scarborough Renaissance Festival opened last weekend, and will run through Memorial Day just south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Waxahachie.
I've been to both the Houston festival and the one near Dallas several times, and I look forward to them every year. We usually make a bee-line straight for the Scottish eggs - those hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage and deep fried, and best eaten with a big blob of mustard on top. And then we chase it with watermelon on a stick to feel a little healthy. Then there's the pizza, cheesy bread, steak on a stick, and fajitas too, and just when you think you've eaten all you can you come across a new section with entirely different options and you will convince yourself you're still hungry and you'll go for some cinnamon-covered nuts. Yum city.
It's an Artisan's Showcase weekend this Saturday and Sunday, April 14th and 15th, and they're planning to show off the wares that the village artisans create. You can vote for your favorite item in each area to qualify that shoppe in a “Best in Show” contest and you can register to win a handmade gift basket. They'll pick one winner each day. And they'll have a scavenger hunt too, with hidden treasures in most of the shoppes to win a Scarborough Prize Package. They'll have all the info at the Main Souvenir Shoppe both days.
Tickets are $26 if you buy online, and they'll be $28 at the gate. Kids 4 and under are free. The festival runs through May 28th, and it's every Saturday and Sunday.
Do you go in costume? I never have, but I always request to take a pic with the people that are dressed up, and they're usually happy to oblige, especially if they're carrying around a beer stein. And then I buy a hand-crafted, curly dipped candle and some salsa, and maybe a scented leather rose and a glass unicorn just because. It's so much fun. Go hungry and thirsty, Me Lords and Me Ladies. See ya there!
