SFA Culinary Students Gain Recognition Across the Nation in April
Over the past few years, the SFA culinary students have been doing awesome things. From running the Lumberjack Express Mobile Food Lab, to competing in barbeque tournaments as the Axes and Embers Barbecue Competition Team, to operating the Culinary Cafe and more, these students - and their professors - have been turning heads in the culinary world, not just in Nacogdoches and Deep East Texas, but all over the place. Just looking at the month of April and how busy it was proves that for this group.
SFA Students Recruited to Staff the Masters Tournament
This year, the Lumberjacks were seen representing SFA at one of the most prestigious sporting events in the nation. According to an article from the SFA website, 15 students were chosen to staff kitchens at the Augusta National Golf Club during the Masters Tournament from April 3rd through the 12th. In addition to the students, Chef Todd Barrios, professor in practice for the School of Human Sciences and Professional Studies at SFA was also recruited for the Masters as a head sous chef.

During their time at Augusta, the students worked with all different styles of food, as well as operated in lots of different positions.
SFA Culinary Students Also Competed in Do Dat BBQ
The Masters Tournament wasn't the only place that the SFA culinary crew showed up at in April, though. The Axes and Embers Barbecue Competition Team that I mentioned earlier also made their way out to the Nacogdoches County Expo Center to compete in the Do Dat BBQ on April 25th. They had the BBQ staples out there - you know, brisket, pork, chicken, all the standards - as well as purple ice cream. The students were there, along with Chef Todd leading them once again.

Like I said, April was pretty busy for these folks, especially considering that they were also operating the Culinary Cafe twice a week throughout the month, with a unique menu each time.
Apparently, SFA makes great chefs, culinary recruits, BBQ teams, and more! Axe 'em, Jacks!
