The biopic based on the life of Gregg Allman is beginning to take greater shape. Today (Feb. 17), we learned the names of some of the principal members of the cast, including the actors who will portray the rock legend's best friend and his mother.

Dan Toler, a southern rock guitar great who was part of the Allman Brothers Band family, has died near his hometown of Sarasota, Fla. He was 65.

The reason behind the breakup of one of rock’s most legendary and influential bands is rather ordinary, but the story is special. In his new memoir ‘My Cross to Bear’ (available May 1) Gregg Allman reveals how drugs and money shattered the Allman Brothers Band‘s harmony in the summer of 1976.

The Allman Brothers Band closed a 10-night residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Sunday night, and were forced to play parts of two of those shows without frontman and founder Gregg Allman. Allman walked off stage in pain on Saturday night and was taken to a local hospital.

A special featuring highlights from the 2011 Americana Music Association's Honors and Award Show is scheduled to premiere on PBS stations starting on November 19.  ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival will include performances by Robert Plant and his Band of Joy, Gregg Allman and many other roots musicians that were taped at the October 13 ceremony at Nashville's famous Ryman Auditorium. Gregg Allman has been forced to cancel several solo shows because he's suffering from an upper respiratory ailment, according to Billboard.com.  The shows axed include 13 dates, stretching from an August 26 performance in Windsor, Connecticut, through a September 15 show in Fredericton, Canada...

While recognizing that drummer Butch Trucks had declared the band wouldn't be recording any new material, Allman refuted that claim, stating, "We will be getting in the studio with or without Butchie.  There, I said it!"
