Given the circumstances of the past two years, every one that works in healthcare deserves a substantial raise and an extended vacation. Wouldn't it be nice if that came true.

Every year, Woodland Heights Medical Center makes it a point to recognize one of their nurses who is amazing in their daily duties even in a profession in which so many go above and beyond.

Woodland Heights today announced that Al Torres, LVN, has been selected to receive its Nursing Excellence Award. This peer-nominated award, given in recognition of the critical role nurses play in treating our patients, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.

Al was chosen for his outstanding contributions in the areas of patient care and satisfaction.

“Woodland Heights is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Al among its team members. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crises, and who are true champions of promoting healthcare in our community,” said Debra Taylor, Chief Nursing Officer. “With an ongoing focus this year on the selfless efforts of healthcare professionals like Al, we are pleased to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.

Al joined Woodland Heights in April of 2018 and in that time has continuously gone above and beyond to offer his patients the best. Al is also currently in school to earn his Registered Nurse degree while working full time. One of his co-workers said this about Al, “He is the epitome of a good nurse. You can see he enjoys his job and cares about his patients.”

In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Al received a cash prize and a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
