A Lufkin, Texas Landmark Sustains Damage From Mondays Storms
The Pines Theater in Lufkin is one of my all-time favorite attractions in downtown Lufkin. I was saddened to hear that the roof sustained damage from all the wind, rain, and hail we received late Monday, March 14th, 2022.
I spoke to Brant Lee the Director Of Convention Services at the City of Lufkin briefly on the phone today, and they are in the very early stages of assessing the damages. The storm caused the roof to leak, and they are bringing in a structural engineer to get a better idea of the situation.
At this time the Pines Theater is closed to all events. This will last at least through the weekend. Once things get assessed, they will know more about the timeline moving forward.
There Are Many Events Coming Up At The Pines In Lufkin, Texas
I can only imagine the scheduling issues ahead for the Angelina Arts Alliance and the Pines Theater. This led to the cancelation of the Pineywoods Community Academy PTSO Family movie night.
PTSO posted on Facebook that the Pines Theater facility would be closed for at least the next two months. I don't know where they got that information, but so far that is not the case.
Here are a few of the events coming up at the end of March that could be affected.
Pines Presents: The Malpass Brothers - March 24th, 2022
Pines Presents: Citizens At Last - March 26th, 2022
Pines Presents: David Phelps - March 27th, 2022
Card 53 Comedy - April 2nd, 2022
There are many different properties that these events could be moved to but hopefully, our old theater is back better than ever very soon.
