With the sweet sensation of fall nearly upon us, and the crisper, cooler air that will likely invade Reliant Stadium on Saturday, October 6, the "Battle of the Pineywoods" between the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and Sam Houston State Bearkats (yes, it is spelled correctly) is some of the best football to be seen in East Texas!

Just like Georgia/Georgia Tech which is known as "clean, old-fashioned hate", or Colorado versus Colorado State in the "Rocky Mountain Showdown", or the "Red River Rivalry" between Texas and Oklahoma, or the ever popular "Sibling Rivalry" pitting Michigan against Michigan State, the "Battle of the Pineywoods" is a football lover's dream come true.

The most current, unsubstantiated records show the Bearkats leading the series 49-35-2.  That's 86 years of history dating back to 1923, where the Lumberjacks allegedly prevailed 19-6.  Games were not played in 1942 through 1945, presumably due to the War?  By all accounts, games resumed again in 1946.

For the men, grab some brewskies, brats and babes, and for the women, grab some brew-skies, brats, and bums.
