Central Heights and Martinsville Schools Score Over $400K for CTE Programs
We're starting to see a resurgence of CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs being implemented in schools all over the place. And why wouldn't we? I think it's great to have students learn trades and step into careers like electricians, plumbers, welders, medical assistants, and more. This month, two of our local schools were awarded grants to further their CTE programs even more.
Central Heights & Martinsville Schools Awarded Career Training Grants
According to a press release from the Office of the Texas Governor website, nine schools in the East Texas area were awarded grants as part of the Jobs and Education for Texans program. This JET program will help schools purchase equipment, install it, and train 700 students. The nine East Texas schools that were selected to receive grants are Central Heights ISD, Frankston ISD, Hawkins ISD, Kemp ISD, Kilgore College, Martinsville ISD, Mineola ISD, Northeast Texas Community College and Tyler Junior College. As you can see, two of the nine schools were located right here in Deep East Texas.
- Central Heights ISD was awarded $219,849 to train a total of 50 students as phlebotomists. They would be trained through a partnership with Angelina College.
- Martinsville ISD was awarded $192,032 to train five students as nursing assistants. They would be trained through a partnership with Panola College.
Some of the other schools, like these two, received grants that were geared towards the medical field. Others went to training for welders, HVAC industry workers, automotive workers, and even veterinary assistants and technicians.

Again, this is a pretty cool program for these students. They are being trained to step right into their chosen fields. I look forward to seeing them excel in their careers.
