Groceries, Backpacks & More at DETRC’s Back to School Kids Expo
It's back to school time in East Texas. A few schools have seen their students already return, such as Latexo, Livingston, Centerville and a few others. The majority of schools will be back in session over the next week and a half.
With that in mind, the Deep East Texas Resource Center will be hosting a Back to School Kids Expo on Tuesday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will be taking place at their location at 105 Lofton Street in Lufkin.
The purpose of this event is to help families get their kids ready for the new school year by offering a variety of resources. The Deep East Texas Resource Center will be partnering with other community agencies to continue its original goal of having wrap-around services in one location. The line-up includes groceries, backpacks, dental hygiene products, health and nutrition activities, a face painter and more!
More specifically, the line-up includes:
- East Texas Food Bank and Deep East Texas Resource Center
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council
- Bright Smiles
- United Healthcare
- Angelina County & Cities Health District
- East Texas Community Health Services/Lufkin Community Clinic
- Greater East Texas Community Action Program (GETCAP)
Due to the recent acceleration of the Delta variant, East Texas Food Bank and its subsidiaries are requiring masks for everyone, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, and whether indoor or outdoor.
The goal of the Deep East Texas Resource Center is to provide a one-stop-shop of services for families and individuals with a healthy, client-choice food pantry, benefits assistance, nutrition education and other support services. For more information on the programs offered, visit www.detrc.org.
