The 1980's were a blast. Here are some totally Texas, 80's memories from pop culture, Hollywood and some intense Texas, 80's weather.

Many people feel the 1980's was the decade Texas really came into its own. The 60's left us in a bad light after President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, followed by a Texan, (LBJ), becoming POTUS and serving a somewhat shady term.

The 70's energy crisis set the Texas oil industry up to make zillions of dollars in the 80's and the rest of the country, and the world, took notice. Rising from the ashes of 70's era inflation and financial woe, Texas was ready to party.

Showcasing the overindulgence the Texas economy allowed for in the 80's, Texas held the "Biggest Party in History" simultaneously in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Odessa, McAllen, Houston and Dallas. The Houston and Dallas events each included concerts by The Who along with Texas' own Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.

On the entertainment front, Hollywood gave us movies and TV shows like Urban Cowboy, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, (which also inspired "La Grange"), and Dallas that flaunted Texas' famous rebelliousness, wealth and coolness.

"Don't Mess With Texas", (pretty much), became the state motto while some wild weather totally messed with Texas. Extreme weather events of the 80's included over 22 inches of snow in El Paso and flooding of the Guadalupe River which killed 10.

That flood was bad but not nearly as bad as what just happened.
