LTC David M. Miller assumed duties as the Professor of Military Science/Department Chair of Stephen F. Austin State University, on 13 Jun 2012. He has recently returned from US Army Pacific where he served as the Facility and Construction Branch Chief, Deputy Chief of Staff for Engineering. His assignment prior to US Army Pacific was as a Brigade Team Chief for a Military Transition Team (MiTT) in Iraq (08-09), where he was partnered with 8th Brigade, 2nd IA Division, Mosul, and later with the Department of Border Enforcement (DBE) in Basra.

LTC Miller is a native of Paducah, Kentucky and is a graduate of Murray State University. After commissioning in the U.S. Army as an Armor Officer, he attended the Armor Officer's Basic Course and graduated on the Commandants list at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His early assignments include: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, Company Commander, and Assistant Battalion S3.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal (2), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), and the Air Assault Badge.

Additionally, LTC Miller has been permanently awarded one Meritorious Unit Citation and two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards and is a recipient of the Bronze order of the de Fleury Medal (Engineer Regiment, honorary).
