The Lufkin Independent School District's version of the prize patrol recently made stops at several area campuses within the district. The Education Foundation Grant Patrol made of members of LISD Administration, Education Foundation board members and Lufkin High School drum line and cheer awarded $48,862.61 total funds for 21 educational grants on 10 campuses.

Some of the grant ideas include outdoor classrooms, virtual lessons to explore the human body, CPR for elementary students, a mobile escape room for problem-solving, news broadcasting for elementary students, and flash reflex training in PE.

One of the grants awarded to Anderson Elementary this year was funded by the Heart Institute of East Texas for its connection to heart health. The grant titled Hands Only CPR was submitted for approval by Anderson Elementary Coach Aby Goff. Representatives from the Heart Institute of East Texas Aruna Bachireddy (also an Education Foundation board member), Philip La Corte, and Sharon Ford presented the grant. This grant was dear to the Bachireddy's because their son Vinay testified in 2001 to pass a law to establish a statewide school-based CPR training program.
