Back the Blue BBQ Drive-Thru Changes Fundraising Focus to Help NPD Officer and Family
A couple of weeks ago, I told you about the return of the Back the Blue BBQ Drive-Thru that's coming up later this month in Nacogdoches. The fundraiser is still happening, no worries there. However, after a scary event for one Nacogdoches police officer over the weekend, the fundraising focus has changed.
Back the Blue BBQ Will Benefit Officer Spencer Tutt & Family
Late Saturday night/early Sunday morning one of the Nacogdoches Police Department officers - Officer Spencer Tutt - had a cardiac event that required first responders to use life-saving measures including CPR to get him stabilized before transporting him to a hospital in Tyler. In addition to this, Tutt also has a 10-year-old son that is currently battling leukemia and having to go through those treatments.
In light of all this, the Nacogdoches Law Enforcement Foundation made the decision over the weekend to redirect all funds raised from the BBQ to the Tutt family, to help them with medical expenses, travel expenses, etc. According to the NACLEF Facebook page, they said, "NACLEF has supported the Tutt family before, but after last night’s events, we felt a responsibility to do more."
Back the Blue BBQ Time & Location Will Remain the Same
The BBQ is still going to happen on the same day, at the same time, in the same location - Thursday, May 14th from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center - but instead of the funds being used for equipment or training for Nacogdoches County law enforcement as a whole, they will go towards the Tutt family. This is a really cool move for one of our local foundations, and a really cool chance for our community to rally together and help Officer Tutt and his family.
