The weather has been nice this week, and that's expected to continue into the weekend. If you're heading to the lake, keep in mind that game wardens are watching to make sure you're obeying all of the boating laws.

Boating on East Texas lakes can be the perfect way to spend an afternoon, but it can also earn you a citation if you're not careful.  Here's what you need to know.

Make sure the kiddos have life jackets.  Anyone under the age of 13 has to be wearing a life jacket at all times, and everyone else has to have access to a life jacket somewhere on the vessel.  There has to be a personal flotation device there for every person on board.

Boater safety classes are available if you want to brush up on the rules, and in some cases the classes are required.

Know that a BWI is possible.  If you're going to have a few beverages on board, save yourself a "Boating While Intoxicated" charge, and have a designated operator.  Those passengers that get too tipsy on the boat can get a public intoxication charge, in the same way that someone on a public street can be cited for public intoxication.

East Texas has some great hangout-ski-and-fish lakes and spending time on the water can be way better than a stressful day at the office.  Just know your stuff before you head out.  Have fun and be safe!
