10 years ago, if you had told me that Nacogdoches was going to have their very own minor league baseball team, I would have laughed at you. Actually, if you had told me that same thing one year ago, I still would have laughed.

But here we are, getting ready for the Nacogdoches Niners to make an appearance in the Oldest Town in Texas. It's actually going to be a thing.

Countdown to Opening Day 2026

If you go to the Nacogdoches Niners website, there's actually a live countdown clock ticking away, even as you're reading this post. As of my writing, that clock shows just over 113 days until what they are referring to as "Opening Night 2026".

Now, if my math is correct, that would put opening night in mid-May. That's a pretty cool thought for Nacogdoches. I know that I'm biased, not only because I'm a Nac resident, but I'm also a huge baseball fan. And a night out at the ball field - with decent weather - is a good night. May is usually pretty good outdoor weather for Deep East Texas, so I'm thinking that would be a pretty great time for opening night festivities.

Not Many Other Details are Available

Currently, the countdown clock is probably the biggest known detail about this new Nacogdoches endeavor. Most of the other things (ticket prices, roster, schedule, etc.) are listed as "Coming Soon" on the website.

Games in Nacogdoches will be played at Jaycee's Field in Pilgrim's Park, just off the loop.

Even though most details are still up in the air, I think this is a pretty awesome move for Nacogdoches. It's different, with nothing else like it in our area. Plus, it should provide some neat experiences for people of all ages.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to some nights out at the ballpark.
