Night Closures Scheduled for a Busy Intersection in Lufkin, Texas

A busy Lufkin intersection is scheduled for some night work for the coming week that will have motorists seeking alternate routes to and from State Loop 287 and State Highway 94.

Crews are scheduled to begin mill and inlay work at 8 pm Sunday on the northbound entrance ramp from the Highway 94/Frank Street intersection onto Loop 287. Work will continue Monday night on the southbound exit ramp from Loop 287 to Highway 94. On Tuesday night, crews will move to the southbound entrance ramp at Highway 94 onto Loop 287 and on Wednesday night, the work is scheduled at the northbound exit ramp from Loop 287 onto Highway 94/Frank Street.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8 pm each night and conclude at 5 am, weather permitting. Intermittent lane closures on Highway 94/Frank Street are also expected nightly. Message boards are in place to alert the public to the work. Motorists should obey all traffic control nightly at each entry/exit ramp. Stay alert for moving equipment and workers. Reduce speed and expect to choose alternate routes.

On a separate note, we are hoping that we'll be getting some good news soon concerning the bridge reconstruction on FM 2497 (Diboll Cutoff). The bridge work there started in September 2021 and the plan has to have it completed by the end of March 2022. However, delays pushed the completion date to May, and then to the end of July.  At a recent Angelina County Chamber function, representatives with the Texas Department of Transportation indicated that the bridge work should be done by the beginning of this next school year.  Hopefully, that means we are about 2-3 weeks away from the re-opening of that road.
