In a release from the Texas Department of Transportation, a section of State Loop 304 in Crockett will be closed later today and remain closed until rain subsides and repairs can be made to the roadway.

Loop 304 will be closed from the intersection of SH 7 West at the loop and continue for about 2,000 feet to near the driveway of Crockett High School. Barricades will be set and no through traffic will be allowed during the closure.

“This area of the loop in Crockett is under construction and with the excessive rainfall we have had and are still having, the roadway has become slippery and muddy and not acceptable for travel,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer. “We don’t have a timeline for how long the closure will be necessary, but the road will be reopened when it is passable.”

Lighted message boards will be placed near main highway intersections around Loop 304 announcing the closure. Motorists should prepare to take alternate routes and stay alert, reduce speed near the closure and obey all signage.

The heavy rainfall in East Texas is also causing flooding issues in portions of Sabine, Jasper and Newton Counties. For more information on closures/conditions statewide, visit drivetexas.org. LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
