Over the past few days there has been a lot of speculation going on around the country. Lots of the speculation circled around military service. Specifically, the question of would there be a mandatory draft issued has been asked multiple times.

Well, someone - or several someones - thought it might be humorous to play on people's curiosity and fear, and send out text messages about individuals being drafted. These have since been debunked as fraudulent.

These were a couple of examples of texts that people had received concerning the military draft:

The US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) put out this statement via Facebook:

Fact check: The U.S. Army is NOT contacting anyone regarding the draft. If you are receiving texts, phone calls or direct messages about a military draft, they are not official communications from the U.S. Army.

The U.S. Army does not control the draft. Per the Selective Service System, the agency that oversees the draft, in the event that a national emergency necessitates a draft, Congress and the president would need to pass official legislation to authorize a draft.

Here was the actual post from USAREC:

So, if you've received text messages, calls, or any other messages similar to these, they are frauds. If you have any questions about the recruiting process or messages like the ones mentioned above, you're encouraged to contact your local Army recruiting office.
