One of the first projects that began on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus after joining the University of Texas system was the construction of a brand-new building for the Arthur Temple College of Forestry & Agriculture. There was talk around town about it being completed in 2027. However, after watching the work that's already been done, I personally don't see it taking that long.

Upon completion, this building would house both the agriculture department and the forestry department, which have had separate buildings for many years - the agriculture department was located on Wilson Drive, and the forestry department was located on East College Street.

The First Step Towards the SFA Campus Master Plan

The building of the new forestry and agriculture building is really the first major step in the SFA Campus Master Plan, the 10-year plan that includes all the additions and changes that are proposed to take place on the SFA Campus. This plan has been in the works for a while now and was approved by the UT System Board of Regents on February 19th.

Like I mentioned above, this is really the first major move towards the completion of the master plan, which includes several new academic buildings, residence halls, updated athletic facilities, and - one of the most prominent things - building brand-new baseball and softball facilities on campus, among other changes.

Construction Work Continues Moving Along Quickly

If you drive down East College Street, there's no way you can miss the construction of the new College of Forestry & Agriculture. The construction fencing is up, the crane is at work, and the majority of the framework of the building is already up. Plus, it seems like you can hear the noise of the construction equipment from anywhere in Nacogdoches.

As an alumnus, this is an exciting time for me, seeing SFA grow. I'm curious to see just how fast this part gets done, and to see what's next!

The SFA Gardens are always sought after areas for photo ops. Once the leaves change for fall, they go to a whole new level, making photos even more breathtaking.
