The man making national news after being shot and killed while jogging on a street in Libya Thursday morning, was a teacher from Texas.

Ronnie Smith was from Austin, and took a job teaching chemistry at the International School in Benghazi.
Investigators have said Smith was shot and killed by gunmen riding in a black jeep, and although no person or group has admitted being behind the murder, the main suspects seem to be Islamic militants.

US Ambassadors have sent warnings recently that westerners might be targets in Libya, and back in June, the U.S. State Department warned all U.S. citizens against traveling to Benghazi. There was also a threat issued this week by an al Qaeda propagandist.

The U.S. is pressing Libya for an intense investigation into Smith's death, while his wife and child and his church in Austin mourn the loss.
